Skyler Contracting were chosen as Principal Contractor for the roof refurbishment at Harris Academy in Bermondsey.
The main roof areas were in an extremely poor state and had a number of attempts to stop the leaks over a number of years but to no avail.
Skyler Contracting assembled a full scaffold that totalled twelve storeys to gain independent access to the roof areas.
Works consisted of complete removal of the existing Mastic Asphalt which had failed in many places. Underneath of the Asphalt was a degraded screed that was also removed. This fell outside the original specification and was an addition.
Combining this addition, whilst working in a live school with exams underway, made this an extremely sensitive project. Constant communication with the school hierarchy and detailed schedules as to when each element of works was taking place, became a critical factor in delivering this project to the trust in the defined timeframe.
The project area in total was 500sqm.
